A Magical Meal with My Little Foodie: The English House Unveiled!

As we stepped into The English House, I knew we were in for an enchanting experience.
On first impressions, it felt like an old Victorian hotel lobby, but just a few steps in and my daughters eyes widened with wonder, taking in the mesmerizing array of art and quirky decorations that adorned every nook and cranny. It was like stepping into a magical pop culture art gallery, with natural skylight to boot!
The ambiance was a perfect blend of cosy and open, providing ample space for my daughter to move around and explore; a rare luxury in Singapore’s dining scene.
The English House has a unique sense of style and touches of playfulness in every corner.
A lone Chef’s Knife, set atop an entire showcase of personal effects and antiques from the late Anthony Bourdain. The knife, as it turns out, is a Bob Kramer knife which was purchased at an auction for a whopping $230,000 USD. I cannot even fathom the value of the entire restaurants’ showcase!
From the 1960s yellow London underground washroom statues that made my daughter giggle, to the statues of Darth Vader, Yoda and even a fighter plane lightning ejector seat for sci-fi geeks like me, the whole place felt like a museum treasure trove waiting to be discovered.
Owner & Chef Marco Pierre White has also introduced the ‘inflation menu’ with meals at just $9.99++ offering the community a pocket friendly option to dine and experience this whimsical wonderland without breaking the bank.
Better yet, order from the Ala Carte menu and kids below the age of 12 dine for free. A real win for parents with young kids. My daughter (age 6) opted for the chicken Bolognese, and I was wowed by the quality of the free kids meal.
Traditional Fish & Chips ($52++), quite possibly the best fish & chips I have ever had, was perfectly battered and made with wild caught cod. Having also heard raving reviews of their Wellingtons, we had to give it a go. Stoddart’s Scotch Fillet of Beef (with herb salad) – serves 2 ($168++) was impeccably cooked medium rare & perfectly flavourful. My daughter ravished the beef I sliced up for her, a rare occurrence (pun intended). Fret not, as they also have a lot more modestly priced sides (from $15++), and mains like the Crispy Roast Pork Belly ($28++).
The manager also suggested a selection of non-alcoholic beverages, and our favourite was the Rosemary Blueberry Smash ($15++), topped with a mini skewer of fresh ripe blueberries.
And oh, the desserts! While the Classic Chocolate Mousse ($15++) with fresh strawberry was delicious, my must try pick would be their Baked Apple Crumble ($15++) topped with vanilla ice cream.
The restaurant also boasts a private dining room, brunch & sharing platters, but most interestingly, Hong Kong Dim Sum (curious to give that a try!).
Despite a higher price point, The English House unquestionably justifies its value with top-notch food quality, ambiance, and service. Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or simply treating yourself to a little indulgence, we recommend this place.
